Abstract

Abstract This invention relates to an NC data generation method for rough machining which uses surface data obtained by digitizing a model surface. A moving distance Ki between the present tool position (Pck') and the preceding tool position (Pc(k-1)') is calculated and when this distance Ki is below a predetermined value L, NC data for rough machining is generated so that the tool moves linearly between the present tool position (Pck') and the preceding tool position (Pc(k-1)'). When the distance Ki is above the predetermined value L, the distance is divided into a plurality of segments each of a set distance ℓ 0 and whether or not the tool (TL) crosses a shape approximate surface (Sm) et each division point (Pnj) is checked. If it does, the tool position at each point (Pnj) is corrected vertically in such a manner as not to cross the surface and the NC data for rough machining is generated in such a manner that the tool passes through a tool position (Pnj') after correction.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 3
Claim 1
Independent Claim 237 words
A method of creating NC data for rough machining, characterized by: partitioning a digitizing region into a plurality of meshes and obtaining, as representative points, highest points among points indicated by digitized data mesh by mesh; approximating a machining shape in each mesh by a shape approximating surface having a height the same as that of the representative point; when a predetermined point on the shape approximating surface corresponding to each mesh is one point constituting a tool path, performing a check at said point to determine whether a tool intersects another shape approximating surface; refraining from correcting tool position in case of non-intersection, and in case of intersection, correcting tool position in a height direction to avoid intersection; obtaining a distance between tool position following correction processing and an immediately preceding tool position; when said distance is less than a predetermined value, creating NC data for rough machining in such a manner that the tool is moved linearly between the two tool positions; when said distance is greater than the predetermined value, partitioning said distance into a plurality of segments; performing a check at each partitioning point to determine whether the tool intersects said shape approximating surface; and in case of intersection, correcting tool position at each partitioning point in the height direction to avoid intersection, and creating NC data for rough machining in such a manner that each tool position following correction processing is traversed.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 78 words
A method of creating NC data for rough machining according to claim 1, characterized in that in a case where the tool will not intersect the shape approximating surface at each partitioning point, a correction is effected in the height direction in such a manner that said partitioning point positions will contact the shape approximating surface; and the NC data for rough machining are created in such a manner that tool position following said correction processing is traversed.
