Abstract

Abstract A device for dispensing a liquid, particularly a medicament, at a predetermined rate, comprises a container (2) including a displaceable partition (4) to define a first expansible-contractible chamber (2a) on one side for receiving the liquid (6) to be dispensed, and a second expansible-contractible chamber (26) on the opposite side for receiving an electrolytic cell (8). The electrolytic cell has electrodes (8a) and an electrolyte (8b) capable of generating, upon the energization of the electrodes (8a), a gas under pressure to thereby displace the displaceable partition (4) and to force the liquid (6) out from the first chamber (2a) in accordance with the rate of energization of the electrodes (8a).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 87 words
A device for dispensing a liquid at a predetermined rate, comprising a container for receiving a supply of the liquid to be dispensed, and means for subjecting the liquid to a pressurized gas to force liquid from the container; characterized in that said device includes an electrolytic cell having electrodes adapted to be electrically energized, and an electrolyte capable of generating, upon the energization of the electrodes, the gas to thereby force the liquid from the container in accordance with the rate of energization of said electrodes.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 87 words
A device for dispensing a liquid at a predetermined rate, comprising a container for receiving a supply of the liquid to be dispensed, and means for subjecting the liquid to a pressurized gas to force liquid from the container; characterized in that said device includes an electrolytic cell having electrodes adapted to be electrically energized, and an electrolyte capable of generating, upon the energization of the electrodes, the gas to thereby force the liquid from the container in accordance with the rate of energization of said electrodes.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 35 words
The device according to Claim 1, wherein said container includes a first expansible-contractible chamber for receiving the liquid to be dispensed, and a second expansible-contractible chamber for receiving said electrolyte and electrodes generating the gas.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 30 words
The device according to Claim 2, wherein said first and second chambers are defined by, and are located on opposite sides of, a displaceable partition member in a common container.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 14 words
The device according to Claim 3, wherein said displaceable partition member is a piston.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 14 words
The device according to Claim 3, wherein said displaceable partition member is a diaphragm.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 34 words
The device according to Claim 1, wherein the end of said container through which the liquid is to be dispensed is closed by a membrane pierceable by a needle to permit dispensing the liquid.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 32 words
The device according to Claim 1, further including an electrical power supply for energizing said electrodes, said electrical power supply being housed within a separate power supply unit attachable to said container.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 39 words
The device according to Claim 7, wherein said power supply unit includes a battery and an electrical control circuit for controlling the rate of energization of the electrode, and thereby the rate of dispensing the liquid from the container.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 34 words
The device according to Claim 8, wherein said electrical control circuit includes presettable means for presetting the rate of energization of the electrodes, and an electrical switch for controlling the energization of the electrodes.
Claim 11
Independent Claim 97 words
A method of dispensing a liquid at a predetermined rate, comprising; disposing a supply of the liquid to be dispensed in a container; providing an electrolytic cell having electrodes and an electrolyte capable of generating a gas at a rate corresponding to the rate of energization of the electrodes; energizing said electrodes at a rate corresponding to the predetermined rate of dispensing said liquid; and applying the gas generated by energizing the electrodes to the liquid within the container to force the liquid from the container at a rate corresponding to the rate of energizing the electrodes.
Claim 12
Independent Claim 97 words
A method of dispensing a liquid at a predetermined rate, comprising; disposing a supply of the liquid to be dispensed in a container; providing an electrolytic cell having electrodes and an electrolyte capable of generating a gas at a rate corresponding to the rate of energization of the electrodes; energizing said electrodes at a rate corresponding to the predetermined rate of dispensing said liquid; and applying the gas generated by energizing the electrodes to the liquid within the container to force the liquid from the container at a rate corresponding to the rate of energizing the electrodes.
