Abstract

Abstract A selective call control center (10) is provided for transmission of calls to selective call receivers (14,15,16), such as paging receivers. In a first aspect, priorities are assigned to call sources and to call receivers and the order of transmission of calls is determined by the control center as a function of the priorities of the source and the receiver for each call. In a second aspect, at least one call receiver is provided having at least two addresses and the address to be selected from the at least two addresses for calling that receiver is determined dependent on the priority of the source of the call.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 13
Claim 1
Independent Claim 83 words
A selective call controller (10) comprising: means (20) for receiving calls from call sources, for identifying the source of each call and for assigning a priority to said source; means (28) for transmitting said calls to call receivers and for assigning a priority to the receiver to which each call is to transmitted; and means (22) for determining an order of transmission of the calls to the receivers as a function of the priorities of the source and the receiver for each call.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 83 words
A selective call controller (10) comprising: means (20) for receiving calls from call sources, for identifying the source of each call and for assigning a priority to said source; means (28) for transmitting said calls to call receivers and for assigning a priority to the receiver to which each call is to transmitted; and means (22) for determining an order of transmission of the calls to the receivers as a function of the priorities of the source and the receiver for each call.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 78 words
The controller of claim 1, further comprising means for comparing the priority of the source of each call with the priority of the receiver for that call and means, responsive to the means for comparing, for assigning an overall priority to that call, said overall priority corresponding to the greater of said priorities, wherein the overall priority of a call determines the order of transmission of the call relative to other calls having higher or lower overall priorities.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 94 words
A selective call system comprising: a plurality of call sources (11,12,13) having different assigned priorities; a plurality of call receivers (14,15,16) having different assigned priorities; a selective call control center (10) including means for assigning priorities to calls received by the control center from the call sources for transmission to the call receivers; transmission means (28) for transmitting the calls to the call receivers; and means (20) for determining an order of transmission of the calls to the receivers as a function of the priorities of the source and the receiver for each call.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 94 words
A selective call system comprising: a plurality of call sources (11,12,13) having different assigned priorities; a plurality of call receivers (14,15,16) having different assigned priorities; a selective call control center (10) including means for assigning priorities to calls received by the control center from the call sources for transmission to the call receivers; transmission means (28) for transmitting the calls to the call receivers; and means (20) for determining an order of transmission of the calls to the receivers as a function of the priorities of the source and the receiver for each call.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 70 words
A selective call system comprising: at least one call receiver (14,15,16) having at least two addresses; a selective call controller (10) having means for receiving calls from call sources, for identifying the source of each call and for assigning a priority to said source and having means for determining which of said at least two addresses is to be called dependent upon the priority of the source of the call.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 70 words
A selective call system comprising: at least one call receiver (14,15,16) having at least two addresses; a selective call controller (10) having means for receiving calls from call sources, for identifying the source of each call and for assigning a priority to said source and having means for determining which of said at least two addresses is to be called dependent upon the priority of the source of the call.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 29 words
The system of claim 4, wherein the at least one call receiver comprises means for generating different alert signals, wherein the alert function generated depends on the address called.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 41 words
The system of claim 4, further comprising the features of the system of claim 3, whereby the priority of a source is used to determine both the order of transmission of calls and the address in the receiver which is called.
Claim 10
Independent Claim 52 words
A method of operating a selective call system, comprising the steps of: providing call sources having different assigned priorities; providing at least one call receiver having at least two addresses; determining which of said at least two addresses is to be called dependent upon the priority of the source of the call.
Claim 11
Independent Claim 52 words
A method of operating a selective call system, comprising the steps of: providing call sources having different assigned priorities; providing at least one call receiver having at least two addresses; determining which of said at least two addresses is to be called dependent upon the priority of the source of the call.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 29 words
The method of claim 7, wherein the at least one call receiver is capable of generating different alert functions and the alert function generated depends on the address called.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 55 words
The method of claim 7, wherein calls for transmission from the call sources to the at least one call receiver are assigned priorities in accordance with claim 7, and wherein the priority of a source is used to determine both the order of transmission of calls and the address in the receiver which is called.
