Abstract
Abstract The apparatus for video tape automatically moves to the beginning frames of scenes. A characteristic data, such as illuminance of each frame, is measured. Neighbouring frames are compared to detect the change in the characteristic data between frames. When the difference exceeds a threshold level, a scene boundary is determined. The editor may then automatically move to a scene boundary in the forward or rewind direction so that the user can edit the scenes at exactly the boundary frame.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
25 words
The dynamic image editor apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the characteristic data is one of illuminance, volume, colour-tone and density of the dynamic image.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
48 words
The dynamic image editor apparatus according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the control means operates to stop the dynamic image in a play mode, stop in a fast forward mode and stop in a rewind mode of the dynamic image in accordance with the detected scene boundaries.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
36 words
The dynamic image apparatus according to claim 1, 2 or 3, further comprising input means for designating modes for finding the beginning scene in a forward direction and finding the beginning scene in a rewind direction.
Claim 6

24 words
The dynamic image apparatus according to any preceding claim, further comprising a beginning memory means for memorising the frame numbers of located scene boundaries.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
45 words
The dynamic image editor apparatus according to claim 5, wherein the beginning memory means memorises a pointer number corresponding to the frame number of a scene boundary, the pointer numbers indicating the order of a series of scenes which begin at the corresponding frame numbers.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
37 words
The dynamic image apparatus as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the detector means calculates the difference in the characteristic data for two neighbouring frames and determines a scene boundary if the difference exceeds a threshold value.
Claim 9
Independent Claim
61 words
A method of editing dynamic images comprising the steps of memorising dynamic images consisting of a plurality of frames; measuring characteristic data of the dynamic image for each frame; determining the difference in characteristic data between neighbouring frames; determining a scene boundary when the difference exceeds a threshold; and controlling movement of the images in accordance with the detected scene boundaries.
Claim 10
Independent Claim
61 words
A method of editing dynamic images comprising the steps of memorising dynamic images consisting of a plurality of frames; measuring characteristic data of the dynamic image for each frame; determining the difference in characteristic data between neighbouring frames; determining a scene boundary when the difference exceeds a threshold; and controlling movement of the images in accordance with the detected scene boundaries.
Claim 11
Independent Claim
54 words
A method of locating a scene boundary between frames of a video tape in which a characteristic data of the dynamic image of each frame is measured; the difference between the characteristic data of adjacent frames is determined and, where the difference between adjacent frames exceeds a predetermined threshold level, a scene boundary occurs.
Claim 12
Independent Claim
54 words
A method of locating a scene boundary between frames of a video tape in which a characteristic data of the dynamic image of each frame is measured; the difference between the characteristic data of adjacent frames is determined and, where the difference between adjacent frames exceeds a predetermined threshold level, a scene boundary occurs.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
33 words
A method as claimed in claim 9, in which data identifying each scene boundary is stored and movement of the video tape is controlled to stop the tape at a selected scene boundary.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim
29 words
A method as claimed in claim 9, in which the determination of the presence of a scene boundary stops the movement of the video tape at the scene boundary.
Claim 15
Independent Claim
27 words
The method according to any of the claims 8 to 11, wherein the characteristic data is one of illuminance, volume, colour-tone and density of the dynamic image.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim
31 words
The method according to claim 10, comprising the step of memorising the frame numbers for each scene boundary and allocating the frame number of each successive scene boundary a pointer number.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim
38 words
The method according to claim 13, wherein the step of controlling includes, for the beginning-forward mode, the steps of increasing the pointer number by one; and moving the dynamic image to the frame number corresponding to that pointer.
Claim 18
Dependent Claim
38 words
The method according to claim 13, wherein the step of controlling includes, for the beginning-rewind mode, the steps of decreasing the pointer number by one; and moving the dynamic image to the frame number corresponding to that pointer.
