Abstract

Abstract An image encoding apparatus has a forming unit for forming a second image having a different resolution on the basis of a first image, an encoding unit for separately encoding the first and second images, and a changing unit for changing the number or positions of reference pixels referred by the encoding unit for encoding between the encoding operations of the first and second images.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 61 words
An image encoding apparatus comprising: forming means for forming a second image having a different resolution on the basis of a first image; encoding means for separately encoding the first and second images; and means for changing the number or positions of reference pixels referred by said encoding means for encoding between the encoding operations of the first and second images.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 61 words
An image encoding apparatus comprising: forming means for forming a second image having a different resolution on the basis of a first image; encoding means for separately encoding the first and second images; and means for changing the number or positions of reference pixels referred by said encoding means for encoding between the encoding operations of the first and second images.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 24 words
An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said encoding means performs the encoding operation with reference to surrounding pixels of a pixel of interest.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 26 words
An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said encoding means performs the encoding operation of the first image with reference to the first and second images.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 28 words
An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said forming means smooths the first image, binarizes the smoothed image, and sub-samples the binary image to form the second image.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 67 words
An image encoding apparatus comprising: forming means for forming a second image having a different resolution on the basis of a first image; encoding means for separately encoding the first and second images; and compensation means for performing linear differential processing of the first image to detect a presence/absence of a fine line to compensate for a forming operation of the second image by said forming means.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 67 words
An image encoding apparatus comprising: forming means for forming a second image having a different resolution on the basis of a first image; encoding means for separately encoding the first and second images; and compensation means for performing linear differential processing of the first image to detect a presence/absence of a fine line to compensate for a forming operation of the second image by said forming means.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 28 words
An apparatus according to claim 5, wherein said forming means smooths the first image, binarizes the smoothed image, and sub-samples the binary image to form the second image.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 31 words
An apparatus according to claim 5, wherein said compensation means detects the presence of the fine line to convert the second image formed by said forming means into a specific image.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 24 words
An apparatus according to claim 5, wherein said encoding means performs the encoding operation with reference to surrounding pixels of a pixel of interest.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 58 words
An imaging coding apparatus of the kind which has means for first transmitting a relatively low resolution degraded image and then transmitting further image information to subsequently upgrade the first transmitted image characterised in that prior to the transmission of the first relatively low resolution degraded image there are means for upgrading that image in certain critical areas.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 58 words
An imaging coding apparatus of the kind which has means for first transmitting a relatively low resolution degraded image and then transmitting further image information to subsequently upgrade the first transmitted image characterised in that prior to the transmission of the first relatively low resolution degraded image there are means for upgrading that image in certain critical areas.
