Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 237 words
An integral disposable absorbent article (20) having longitudinal edges (30) and end edges (32), the absorbent article comprising an absorbent core (44) having a garment surface and a body surface; a liquid impervious backsheet (42) positioned adjacent said garment surface of said absorbent core; a liquid pervious topsheet (38) positioned adjacent said body surface of said absorbent core; a waistcap/waistband (78) disposed adjacent at least one of the end edges (32) of the absorbent article, said waistcap/waistband (78) having an outward portion (80) associated with the absorbent article adjacent said end edge and inward portion (82) contiguous with said outward portion, said inward portion having a proximal edge (84), a distal edge (86), and ends (92) being joined to the absorbent article and said distal edge (86) being spaced inboard from said proximal edge, at least a portion of said distal edge (86) being unsecured to the underlying portion of the absorbent article between said ends (92) so that said distal edge is spaced away from the liquid-receiving surface of the absorbent article, characterized in that the waistcap/waistband (78) comprises a single piece of elastomeric material, the outward portion (80) being operatively associated in an elastically contractible condition with the absorbent article adjacent said end edge (32), the distal edge (86) of the inward portion (82) being operatively associated in an elastically contractible condition with the absorbent article adjacent said ends (92) of the inward portion (82).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 108 words
The absorbent article (20) of Claim 1 additionally comprising: a waistband securement means (94) for securing said outward portion (80) of said waistcap/waistband (78) to the absorbent article in an elastically contractible condition adjacent said end edge (32); and a pair of closing means (96) transversely spaced from each other for securing said ends (92) of said inward portion (82) to the absorbent article in an elastically contractible condition so that said distal edge (86) of said inward portion (82) is gathered so as to be spaced away from the liquid-receiving surface of the absorbent article and said distal edge is maintained inboard of said proximal edge (84).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 45 words
The absorbent article (20) according to any of the preceding claims additionally comprising a proximal securement means (100) for securing said proximal edge (84) of said inward portion (82) to the absorbent article, which is preferably the same element as the waistband securement means (94).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 67 words
The absorbent article (20) according to any of the preceding claims additionally comprising a leg cuff (62) positioned adjacent each longitudinal edge (30) of the absorbent article, wherein said leg cuff (62) preferably comprises a barrier cuff having a first edge (64) and a second edge (66) and a spacing means (76) for spacing said second edge (66) away from the liquid-receiving surface of the absorbent article.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 34 words
The absorbent article (20) according to any of the preceding claims wherein the outward portion (80) of the unitary waistcap/waistband (78) preferably extends across at least the entire width of said absorbent core (44).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 62 words
The absorbent article (20) according to any of the preceding claims wherein said absorbent core (44), in addition to having a garment surface and a body surface, has side edges (46) and waist edges (48), and said proximal edge (84) of said inward portion (82) of said unitary waistcap/waistband (78) is positioned outboard of said waist edge (48) of said absorbent core.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 55 words
The absorbent article (20) according to any of the preceding claims wherein said elastomeric material of said unitary waistcap/waistband (78) comprises an elastomeric film laminate, preferably wherein said elastomeric film laminate comprises a first coverstock layer, a second coverstock layer, and an elastomeric film positioned between said first coverstock layer and said second coverstock layer.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 18 words
The absorbent article (20) according to any of the preceding claims wherein said unitary waistcap/waistband is liquid impermeable.
