Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 158 words
Cache storage system in which dedicated logic within the cache itself serves to execute IBM System /370 Storage-Immediate and Storage-Storage instructions for a data processing system having a processor, a main storage unit and a cache buffer storage unit which includes a cache directory containing a main storage address of data stored in said cache, means for performing non-arithmetic storage related instructions, characterized by means for transferring a command, an address and a first operand to said cache (30); by means for indicating the result of a cache directory search for said address; by means for reading a second operand at said address; by means, within said cache means, for performing a logical operation defined by said first command; and, by means for storing the result of said logical operation in said cache, whereby said logical operation is performed without a transfer of the data to the execution unit of the central processing system for logical processing therein.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 158 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 17 words
Cache storage system according to claim 1 wherein the data processing system processor is a pipelined processor.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 21 words
Cache storage system according to claim 1 and 2 characterized in that storage related instruction is an IBM System/370 Storage-Immediate instruction.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 30 words
Cache storage system according to claim 2 and 3, characterized in that the IBM System/370 Storage Immediate instruction is from a class including MVI, NI, 01, TM and XI instructions.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 28 words
Cache storage system according to claim 2 and 3, characterized in that the cache buffer includes a directory and a data array searched during the same cache cycle.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 38 words
Cache storage system according to claim 5, characterized in that the logical operation and storage of the result of said operation occurs during the next succeeding cycle after said search of said cache directory and said data array.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 20 words
Cache storage system according to claim 1, characterized in that said logical operation is performed using first and second operands.
