Abstract

Switching and display elements based on ferroelectric liquid crystals often show a pronounced optical hysteresis, which leads to the appearance of so-called ghosting. This phenomenon can be significantly reduced or even suppressed if at least one of the two electrodes in such elements is in direct contact with the liquid-crystalline medium.
