Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim
100 words
A printing assembly for an inkjet printer, comprising: inkjet pen means (40) for providing ink droplets which form print lines on sheets (50); and a first heater (60) for heating localized areas of the sheets along the print lines; so that ink is substantially immediately exposed along the print line to localized heat from the first heater upon ejection from the pen means to form a print line, characterised in that the printer further comprises support means (20) for supporting the pen means and the first heater adjacent one to another, proximate the surface of a sheet to be printed.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
38 words
A printing assembly according to Claim 1, wherein the first heater (60) is mounted on the support means (20) for heating localized areas of a sheet (50) surface immediately in advance of inking by the pen means (40).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
36 words
A printing assembly according to Claims 1 or 2 further including a second heater (70) mounted on the support means (20) such that the pen means (40) is disposed between the first and second heaters (60,70).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
33 words
A printing assembly according to Claim 3, wherein the first and second heaters (60,70) operate to heat each print line both immediately before and immediately after inking by the inkjet pen means (40).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
31 words
A printing assembly according to any preceding Claim said support means (20) is mounted on a guide shaft (30) that extends parallel to the surface of a sheet (50) during printing.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
32 words
A printing assembly according to any preceding Claim wherein the inkjet pen means (40) is mounted for translational motion back and forth across the surface of a sheet (50) to be printed.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
24 words
A printing assembly according to any of Claims 1 to 5 wherein the inkjet pen means (40) and the first heater (60) are stationary.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
35 words
A printing assembly according to any preceding Claim further including an auxiliary heating means (130) arranged at a location substantially spaced from the inkjet pen means (40) for heating the sheet (50) surface after printing.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
30 words
A printing assembly according to Claim 8 wherein said auxiliary heating means (130) includes a first heated roller member (131) for rolling across the printed surfaces of printed sheets (50).
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
45 words
A printing assembly according to Claims 8 or 9 wherein said auxiliary heating means (130) includes a second roller member (150) mounted opposite the first roller member (131) such that printed sheets (50) pass through the nip area between the first and second roller members.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
15 words
A printing assembly according to Claim 10 wherein the second roller member (150) is heated.
Claim 12
Independent Claim
87 words
A method of inkjet printing, comprising the steps of: depositing swaths of droplets of ink from inkjet pen means (40) to sequentially form print lines on a surface of a sheet (50); and heating the print lines with a heater (60) substantially simultaneously with printing so that ink droplets, upon striking the sheet surface to form the print lines, are substantially immediately exposed to elevated temperature, characterised in that the heater is provided adjacent the inkjet pen means proximate the surface of the sheet to be printed.
