Abstract
Abstract A comb-like support structure for optical cords (20) has slots (24) of uniform width having resiliently-compressible walls which grip frictionally the cords (20). Intermediate portions of the cords (20) are simply pushed into corresponding slots (24) from one end. The cord support (12) is conveniently mounted in one wall of a distribution frame for optical fibre transmission systems.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim
96 words
Apparatus (12) for clamping an array of generally parallel adjacent filaments (20), comprising at least three coplanar fingers (22) whose adjacent side faces, normal to the plane of the fingers, define between them slots (24) whose major portions at least are of uniform width, for receiving intermediate portions of the respective filaments extending normal to the plane of the fingers, the side faces being resiliently compressible by an inserted filament whereby to grip frictionally that filament with a force which does not vary with the position of the filament along the major portion of the slot.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
24 words
Apparatus according to Claim 1, in which the slots are open at one end only for receiving the intermediate portions of the respective filaments.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
21 words
Apparatus according to Claim 1 or 2, in which the fingers are formed of a single piece of resiliently compressible material.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
18 words
Apparatus according to Claim 1, 2 or 3, in which the fingers are of a resiliently compressible foam.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
21 words
Apparatus according to any preceding Claim, in which the fingers are straight and parallel to each other forming a comb-like structure.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
24 words
Apparatus according to any preceding Claim, comprising a rigid cage with bars (23) each supporting a different finger between adjacent ones of the slots.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
26 words
Apparatus according to Claim 6, in which the rigid cage has a unitary structure with slots in register with corresponding ones (24) of the said slots.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
27 words
A distribution frame (10) for an optical fibre transmission system, comprising a cabinet to which is attached clamping apparatus (12) according to any of the preceding Claims.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
38 words
A distribution frame according to Claim 8, in which several optical filaments (20) having one end within the cabinet and the other end outside the cabinet have intermediate portions clamped in corresponding ones (24) of the said slots.
