Abstract The air bag crash protection device which can be integrated into the steering wheel or the dashboard of motor vehicles has a cover consisting of elastic plastic which is connected to the gas generator carrier, the lid of said cover having exactly defined predetermined break lines and the circumferential frame of said cover which is fastened to the carrier being connected in a hinge-like manner to the lid sections formed by the predetermined break lines.
