Abstract

Abstract A device to generate orthogonally mutually polarised optical waves supplied by one optical wave to permit a polarisation-independent optical superheterodyne reception is to be capable of being produced with minimum requirements on the reproducibility of the production conditions. A device which can be produced in this manner exhibits an integrated optical Mach-Zehnder interferometer (1), upstream of which an integrated optical directional coupler (RK1) or a waveguide fork (WG) is connected and downstream of which an integrated optical directional coupler (RK2) is connected. <IMAGE>
