Abstract

Abstract This invention concerns an apparatus for the measurement of the parameters of atmospheric visibility or optical density. The apparatus comprises a transmitting unit (30) receiving with which light backscattered from the measured space can be received; and information processing means (35) with which the information of light received with the help of the receiving means (30) can be processed and interpreted. According to the invention the active surfaces of the transmitting and receiving means are aligned along an at least essentially same optical axis.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 164 words
An apparatus for the measurement of the parameters of atmospheric visibility or optical density comprising - transmitting means (1) with which light operating as the measurement signal can be emitted to the measured space, - a transmitter optics system (32) with which light can be directed toward a desired object - receiving means (2) with which light (5, 6) backscattered from the measured space can be received, - a receiver optics system (32) with which light can be directed onto the active surface of the receiving means (2), - information processing means (35) with which the intensity and delay information of light received with the help of the receiving means (2) can be processed and interpreted characterized in that - the active surfaces of the transmitting (1) and receiving (2) means are aligned along an at least essentially same optical axis in the immediate proximity of each other allowing thereby a single optics system (32) to act as both the receiver and transmitter optics.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 50 words
An apparatus in accordance with claim 1 characterized in that the transmitting (1) and receiving (2) means are combined on a single optical axis by organizing on the active surface the fibers routed from the transmitting means (1) and the fibers routed to the receiving means (2) into concentric rings.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 39 words
An apparatus in accordance with claim 1, characterized in that the active surfaces (31) of the combination transmitter/receiver head are placed at the focal point of the collimating and focusing optics (32), or at least in its immediate vicinity.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 21 words
An apparatus in accordance with claim 1, characterized in that the same active surface operates as both transmitting and receiving surface.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 77 words
Apparatus for measuring atmospheric visibility or optical density by transmitting light into a measurement space and receiving light from the measurement space and comprising information processing means responsive to means for transmitting the light and means for receiving the light, to interpret light intensity and delay information, the arrangement being such that light is transmitted into and received from the measurement space along at least substantially the same optical axis and through a common optical directing means.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 77 words
Apparatus for measuring atmospheric visibility or optical density by transmitting light into a measurement space and receiving light from the measurement space and comprising information processing means responsive to means for transmitting the light and means for receiving the light, to interpret light intensity and delay information, the arrangement being such that light is transmitted into and received from the measurement space along at least substantially the same optical axis and through a common optical directing means.
