Abstract

Abstract The spaced electrically conductive lead structures (18, 19) of a magnetoresistive read transducer comprise a thin film (30) of tungsten and a thin film overlayer (31) formed of a material taken from the group consisting of Ti, Ta, Cr, Zr, Hf, and TiW. The lead structures may additionally comprise a thin film underlayer (29) formed of a material taken from the same group of metals as the overlayer.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 66 words
A magnetoresistive read transducer assembly including a pair of electrically conductive lead structures (18, 19) in electrical contact with a thin film of magnetoresistive material, characterised by the lead structures comprising a thin film (30) of tungsten and a thin film overlayer (31) formed of a material taken from the group consisting of titanium, chromium, tantalum, zirconium, hafnium and a titanium-tungsten alloy overlying the tungsten film.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 66 words
A magnetoresistive read transducer assembly including a pair of electrically conductive lead structures (18, 19) in electrical contact with a thin film of magnetoresistive material, characterised by the lead structures comprising a thin film (30) of tungsten and a thin film overlayer (31) formed of a material taken from the group consisting of titanium, chromium, tantalum, zirconium, hafnium and a titanium-tungsten alloy overlying the tungsten film.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 47 words
A magnetoresistive read transducer assembly as claimed in claim 1, in which each of the lead structures further comprises a thin film underlayer (29) formed of a material taken from the group consisting of titanium, chromium, tantalum, zirconium, hafnium and a titanium-tungsten alloy underlying the tungsten film.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 24 words
A magnetoresistive read transducer assembly as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, in which the thin film overlayer consists of tantalum or titanium.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 27 words
A magnetoresistive read transducer assembly as claimed in any preceding claim, in which the tungsten film is 100-500nm thick and the thin film overlayer is 2.5-20nm thick.
