Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 104 words
A foam, comprising: an extruded synthetic resin foam composed of cells having substantially two sizes, one of the sizes being not more than 0.25mm and the other size being from 0.4 to 1mm, wherein the cells with sizes not more than 0.25mm occupy from 10 to 80 percent and the cells having a size greater than 0.25mm to less than 0.4mm and cells with greater than lmm cell size being not greater than 30% of a sectional area of the foam and wherein the foam has the cells of not more than 0.25mm surrounding the cells of 0.4 - 1mm in an island-in-the-sea manner.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 12 words
The foam of claim 1, wherein the resin is a styrenic resin.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 133 words
A method of preparing a foam as claimed in claim 1 or 2, comprising: A. forming a mixture of (a) 100 parts by weight of a synthetic resin, (b) 0.5 to 10 parts by weight of a granular matter with not greater than 1000nm particle size, having hydroxyl groups and havinq 10% to 70% by weight of the rate of the adsorption of water, a C 1 to C 4 alcohol or mixtures thereof, said granular matter containing water, a C 1 to C 4 alcohol or mixtures thereof and (c) 0.05 to 5 parts by weight of a cell controlling agent; B. incorporating 0.1 to 0.3 moles per 100 grams of synthetic resin of a volatile-type foaming agent into the mixture under pressure; and C. extruding the mixture to form a foam.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 12 words
The method of claim 3, wherein the resin is a styrenic resin.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 17 words
The method of claim 3, wherein the granular matter has a particle size of 5nm to 1000nm.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 102 words
A method of preparing a foam as claimed in claim 1 or 2, comprising: (A) forming a mixture of (a) 100 parts by weight of a synthetic resin, (b) 0.5 to 10 parts by weight of a fine mineral powder, with not greater than 1000nm particle size, having hydroxyl groups and (c) 0.05 to 5 parts by weight of a cell controlling agent; (B) incorporating 0.1 to 0.3 moles per 100 grams of synthetic resin of a volatile-type foaming agent and 0.2 to 1.5 parts by weight water under pressure into the mixture; and (C) extruding the mixture to form a foam.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 16 words
The method of claim 6, wherein the powder has a particle size of 5nm to 1000nm.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 14 words
The method of claim 6 or 7, wherein the resin is a styrenic resin.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 16 words
The method of claim 6, 7 or 8, wherein the powder is silica having silanol groups.
Claim 10
Independent Claim 19 words
The method of claims 6 to 9, wherein the mixture is extruded into a low pressure (usually atmospheric) space.
