Abstract

Abstract The disclosures relates to an atherectomy device having a generally cylindrical housing (12) formed of a relatively rigid material. The housing has rounded distal and proximal end portions. The housing is formed with a cut-out (14) extending longitudinally of the housing on one side of the housing. An atheroma cutter (31) is disposed to the is proximal end of the housing and is used for advancing the housing into the arterial passage. A flexible drive cable (41) extends through the flexible guide (36) and is connected to the atheroma cutter for operation of the atheroma currer.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 115 words
An atherectomy device comprising a flexible member (36) having proximate and distal ends; a relatively rigid housing (12) disposed at the distal end of the flexible member, said housing having a rounded distal end portion (26) and a cut-out (14) on one side thereof; cutting means (31) disposed within the housing; flexible drive means (41) for translating the cutting means relative to the housing so that said cutting means will move past the cut-out in the housing; motive means for rotating the cutter; and flexible guiding means on the housing; characterised by means (66) on the housing for urging the housing in the direction of the cut-out when the housing is in a blood vessel.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 115 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 101 words
An atherectomy device comprising a flexible member (36) having proximate and distal ends; a relatively rigid housing (12) disposed at the distal end of the flexible member, said housing having a rounded distal end portion (26) and a cut-out (14) on one side thereof; cutting means (31) disposed within the housing; flexible drive means (41) for translating the cutting means relating to the housing so that said cutting means will move past the cut-out in the housing; and motive means for rotating the cutter; characterised by means (61) on the housing for guiding the flexible member through a patient's vascular system.
Claim 4
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 28 words
An atherectomy device as in Claim 2, characterised in that the flexible guiding means is a fixed guide wire (61) secured to the distal end of the housing.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 20 words
An atherectomy device as in Claim 2, characterised in that the flexible guiding means comprises a bore through housing (12).
