Exhaust gas recirculation device
Abstract
Abstract Due to very high exhaust gas temperatures, exhaust gas recirculation devices of this kind must be capable of withstanding high thermal stresses. For this reason, known devices employ means to prevent the heating of the diaphragm in the form of specially formed annular plates or heat conducting plates. However, these designs are very expensive and furthermore tend towards valve sticking. The new exhaust gas recirculation device is distinguished by the fact that a pneumatic actuator (4) is arranged on the air intake duct (2) of an internal combustion engine in such a way that its diaphragm rod (5) projects through the air intake duct transversely to the direction of flow in the latter and that a valve member (6) connected to the diaphragm rod controls the cross-section of flow of an exhaust gas recirculation duct (3) at its opening (8) into the air intake duct. Exhaust gas recirculation devices of this kind are employed in automobile construction, in particular on diesel engines. <IMAGE>
