Abstract

Abstract The invention concerns an apparatus for the administration of drugs in form of metered aerosol, consisting of an expansion chamber (3) comprising two coaxial tubes (1, 2) freely slidable within one another and detachable. The external tube (1) has an open end (4) and a tapered end (5) on which the chamber mouth-piece (9) is mounted. The internal tube (2) has an open end (10) which may be inserted into the external tube (1) and on opposite end (11) on which the mouth-piece of a conventional dispenser containing the active principale in form of pressurized aerosol is stuck. The apparatus allows a better penetration of the drug into the airways up to the deepest zones of the bronchial tree.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 177 words
A device for the administration of drugs in the form of metered aerosols comprising an expansion chamber (3) consisting of two coaxial tubes (1, 2) freely slidable within one another, said tubes delimiting an internal chamber (3) the volume of which can be varied according to the amount of extension of the internal tube (1) relative to the external tube (2), characterized in that said external tube (2) has an open end (4) for inserting the external tube (1) and a tapered opposite end (5) on which a one-way valve is housed, on which valve a mouth-piece (9) is then mounted, and the internal tube (1) also has an open end (10) that delimits the volume of chamber (3), and an opposite end (11), said end (11) having an opening (13) on which various kinds of mouth-pieces (15) of conventional metered aerosols can be stuck, the opening of mouth-piece (15) of the dispenser, the tubes (1, 2) of the expansion chamber (3) and the opening of the mouth-piece (9) of the latter being on the same axis.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 48 words
A device according to claim 1, characterized in that the volume of the expansion chamber (3) can be varied between about 200 and 600 ml, the total length can be varied between 100 and 300 mm and the maximum diameter can be varied between 50 and 80 mm.
Claim 4
Independent Claim 51 words
A device according to claims 1 and 2 in which the mouth-piece (9) of the expansion chamber is provided with a valve (8) the function of which is to prevent the aerosol spray delivered into the chamber from exiting before the inhalation, and the air from being expired into the apparatus.
Claim 5
Independent Claim 21 words
A device according to claims 1-3, characterized in that the tubes (1, 2) forming the expansion chamber (3) are completely separable.
Claim 6
Independent Claim 50 words
A device according to claims 1-4, characterized in that the can for the metered aerosol can be housed inside the internal tube (1) of the expansion chamber (3) and the internal tube (1) is in turn stuck into the external tube (2) for storage and transportation of the whole assembly.
