Method in mobile radio systems which have a plurality of radio channels for transmitting control information and message information between base stations and mobile stations (MS₁, M₂), said base and mobile stations including radio transmitters and radio receivers for a plurlaity of radio channels, in which method the responsiblity for transmitting message information to a mobile station is handed over from at least one first base station transmitter (B ma , B mb ), to at least one second base station transmitter (B na , B nb ), characterized in that before handing over the responsibility, testing is carried out in the stationary part of the system to see whether after the handover the second base station transmitter can use the same radio channel for transmitting message information to the mobile as the radio channel used by the first base transmitter before handover, and in that when the testing result is positive the same radio channel is preferably used before and after the handover for transmitting message information to the mobile station.

Method as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that in the cases where, after the handover, the second bare station transmitter is to use the same radio channel as the first base station transmitter used before handover took place, the handover is carried out without the mobile station being informed of the handover beforehand.

Method as claimed In claim 1, characterized in that transmission of message information to the mobile station from a second bare station transmitter (B na ) is started before the transmission of message information to the mobile station from a first base station transmitter (B ma ) Is terminated, in that substantially the same message information is transmitted during a transition period to the mobile station from both at least one first base station transmitter and a least one second base station transmitter, and in that at least during a part of the transition period the mobile station receives and utilises radio signals sent from both the first and second base transmitters.
