Abstract

Abstract Non-human mammalian cell lines which express antigens of the carcinoembryonic antigen gene family are provided by the present invention. The cell lines are prepared by gene transfection of human DNA, such as LoVo cell DNA, into non-human mammalian cells, such as mouse cells or by the transfection of complete cDNA in appropriate expression vectors into non-human mammalian cells, such as mouse cells. Primary transfectants can be transfected further into non-human mammalian cells to provide secondary transfectants. Cloning of secondary transfectants yields cell lines that exhibit increased expression of the surface antigen protein. The transfectant cell lines provide a means for producing antibodies, particularly monoclonal antibodies, against CEA family antigens. Furthermore, a general method is provided for screening and assessing the specificity of these antibodies to each member of the CEA gene family.
