Method for authenticating a point-to-point connection in a multi-user communication system
Abstract
Abstract In a communication system, several pairs of transmitters and receivers should be able to use the same transmission medium at the same time. So that each activated receiver recognises the transmitter allocated to it in each case, the following measures are provided: for each transmitter in the communication system, an exclusive identification signal is allocated which exhibits a sequence of symbols and is selected in such a manner that each value of the cross-correlation of the identification signal with each other identification signal occurring in the communication system is significantly smaller than the maximum value of the autocorrelation of the identification signal. Each activated receiver in the communication system temporarily stores a number of the symbols received successively and periodically forms a cross-correlation of the stored symbol sequence with the nominal symbol sequence of the indentification signal of the associated transmitter. The receiver then compares the cross-correlation obtained with the autocorrelation of the nominal symbol sequence. The resultant difference is used as an estimation for the authentication and evaluated.
