Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 131 words
An ophthalmic lens (10, 100, 200) comprising: a biocompatible lens body (12, 112, 212) having a size and shape adapted to be supported by a human eye in the optical path of the eye; the lens body having an optical portion (13, 113, 213) with anterior and posterior surfaces (16, 116, 216, 15, 115, 215); the optical portion having a grooved portion (14, 114, 214) defining an echelon lens pattern in at least one of the anterior and posterior surfaces; the echelon lens pattern including at least segments of annular zones; at least some of said segments having an inclined surface (24, 26) which is inclined relative to an optical axis of the lens, characterized in that the inclination of said surface varies circumferentially within a segment for astigmatism correction purposes.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 44 words
An ophthalmic lens as recited in claim 1 wherein the lens body (12) has a size and shape adapted to be inserted in the anterior chamber of the eye and including retaining means (18, 19) for use in retaining the lens in the eye.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 26 words
An ophthalmic lens as recited in claim 2 wherein the lens body (12) is composed of a resilient material that can be folded for implantation purposes.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 29 words
An ophthalmic lens as recited in claim 1 wherein the lens body (113) has a size and shape adapted to be placed against the eye as a contact lens.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 33 words
An ophthalmic lens as recited in claim 1 wherein the lens body has a size, shape and composition adapted to be implanted in the cornea of the eye as a corneal implant lens.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 32 words
An ophthalmic lens as recited in any preceding claim wherein the grooved portion includes a series of concentric prismatic grooves and the prismatic grooves define radial step widths less than 0.5 millimeter.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 59 words
An ophthalmic lens as recited in any preceding claim wherein each of said segments has a second surface which intersects the inclined surface (24, 26) of the adjacent segment to define an apex (25, 27) and the inclined surface (24, 26) extends from the apex (25, 27) of the adjacent segment to the second surface of the associated segment.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 15 words
An ophthalmic lens as recited in any preceding claim wherein said segments extend for 360°.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 34 words
An ophthalmic lens as recited in any preceding claim wherein the lens body is composed of a material selected from the group consisting of a silicone material, a polyurethane material, and a polymethylmethacrylate material.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 35 words
A method of correcting vision, comprising the steps of providing an ophthalmic lens (10, 100, 200) according to claim 1 and retaining the ophthalmic lens by the eye in the optical path of an eye.
