Abstract

Abstract An optical system having a light source (10), a uniforming device (61, 31) and an optical fiber type lightguide (50), wherein the uniforming device comprises a first optical transmission portion (31) connected to the lightguide and a second optical transmission portion (61) connected to the first optical transmission portion including a plurality of optical fibers (61A) stretching across the inside thereof which are arranged in such a manner that a light-receiving end (61-1) of each of the optical fibers is placed at a randomly assigned position on a light-receiving end of the second optical transmission portion (61) and on the other hand a light-emitting end (61C) of each of the optical fibers is placed at a randomly assigned position on a light-emitting end of the second optical transmission portion, thereby uniforming the distribution of the quantity of light emitted therefrom.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 112 words
A device for increasing uniformity of light distribution, and to be connected between an incident end of an optical fiber type lightguide, and a source of light, the device including a first optical transmission means, and a second optical transmission means which has one end connected to an end of said first optical transmission means, the second optical transmission means including a large number of optical fibers extending between the ends thereof, and arranged such that one end of each of the optical fibers is randomly positioned at the incident end of the means and the other end of each of the optical fibers is randomly positioned at an emitting end thereof.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 112 words
A device for increasing uniformity of light distribution, and to be connected between an incident end of an optical fiber type lightguide, and a source of light, the device including a first optical transmission means, and a second optical transmission means which has one end connected to an end of said first optical transmission means, the second optical transmission means including a large number of optical fibers extending between the ends thereof, and arranged such that one end of each of the optical fibers is randomly positioned at the incident end of the means and the other end of each of the optical fibers is randomly positioned at an emitting end thereof.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 27 words
A device according to claim 1 wherein the first optical transmission means if for making more uniform the distribution in emitting angle of the light emitted therefrom.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 23 words
A device according to claim 2 or 2 wherein the first optical transmission means is for uniforming the distribution of the light emitted.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 25 words
A device according to claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein said first optical transmission means is cylindrical or columnar light-transmitting device made of acrylic resin.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 16 words
A light emitting system including a device according to any preceding claim connected to a lightguide.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 16 words
A device according to claim 5 wherein the first transmission means is connected to the lightguide.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 21 words
A light source system including apparatus according to any preceding claim and a light source to supply light to the device.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 88 words
A light source system as set forth in claim 7 wherein a focal position of said light source is positioned on the incident end of said optical transmission means and an angle formed by a segment drawn from the center of the focal position to said light source and a normal to the incident end of said second optical transmission means can be changed to appropriately make uniform the distribution of the quantity or intensity of the light emitted from said light optical transmission means to said lightguide.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 105 words
A light source system as set forth in claim 7 wherein one or more light sources are further rotatably provided in said light source system such that the focal position of each of said light sources is placed on the incident end of said second optical transmission means and that angles each formed by a segment drawn from the center of each of the focal position to said light source and a normal to said second optical transmission means can be changed to appropriately uniform the distribution of the quantity of intensity of the light emitted from said first optical transmission means to said lightguide.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 68 words
A transmission means for use in a device according to claim 1, 2, 3 or 4 including a large number of optical fibers extending between the ends thereof, and arranged such that one end of each of the optical fibers is randomly positioned at the incident end of the means and the other end of each of the optical fibers is randomly positioned at an emitting end thereof.
