Abstract

Abstract This invention provides novel compounds for therapy of tumours suceptible to necrosis when an appropriate compound is adminstered followed by illumination with light of a wavelength absorbed by the compound, the compounds being dihydro porphyrins of the formula, or the corresponding tetra-hydro porphyrins: where n = 1 to 3 and each substituent R, the same or different and at the same or different position in its respective substituent phenyl ring, is an hydroxy group.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 99 words
Compounds being pharmacologically acceptable tumour locating dihydro or tetra-hydro porphyrins of the formulae below; methods of making medicaments for therapy of tumours susceptible to necrosis when such a compound is administered to locate in the tumour followed by illumination of the tumour with light of a wavelength absorbed by the compound, said methods making use of the compounds by associating them with a pharmaceutical diluent or carrier; and such medicaments and therapy as such; the compounds being of the formulae:- wherein each Ar, the same or different, is an aromatic group with one or more hydroxy (-OH) substituent groups.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 99 words

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 48 words
The subject matter of claim 1, the compounds being of the formula:- or the corresponding tetra-hydro porphyrins, where n = 1 to 3 and each substituent R, the same or different and at the same or different position in its respective substituent phenyl ring, is an hydroxy group.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 19 words
The subject matter of claim 2 where each substituent is an o -hydroxyphenyl, m -hydroxyphenyl or p -hydroxyphenyl group.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 21 words
The subject matter of claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein each hydroxy group is free rather than in a substituted form.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 33 words
The subject matter of claims 1, 2, 3 or 4 the compounds being synthesis of 2,3-dihydro-5,10,15,20-tetra(p-hydroxy-phenyl) porphyrin; synthesis of 2,3-dihydro-5,10,15,20-tetra(m-hydroxy-phenyl) porphyrin; synthesis of 2,3-dihydro-5,10,15,20-tetra ( o -hydroxyphenyl) porphyrin and synthesis of 7,8,17,18-tetrahydro-5,10,15,20-tetra(m-hydroxyphenyl) porphyrin.
