Abstract

Abstract The invention provides an assembly of a needle shield (6) for a needle channel (10) and a self-sealing diaphragm (5), wherein the needle shield (6) is generally cup-shaped and is provided with an aperture (8), said self-sealing diaphragm (5) being retained in the aperture (8), the arrangement being such as to protect the fingers of the operative from needle-stick by the miss-direction of a hypodermic needle. The diameter of the aperture (8) may approximate to, or be smaller than, the internal diameter of the inlet of the needle channel (10) so that not only is needle-stick obviated, but also the tendency of the needle point to tear the seal-sealing diaphragm (5) is significantly reduced.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 42 words
An assembly of a needle shield (6) for a needle channel (10) and a self-sealing diaphragm (5), characterised in that the needle shield is generally cup-shaped and is provided with an aperture (8), said self-sealing diaphragm (5) being retained in the aperture.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 42 words
An assembly of a needle shield (6) for a needle channel (10) and a self-sealing diaphragm (5), characterised in that the needle shield is generally cup-shaped and is provided with an aperture (8), said self-sealing diaphragm (5) being retained in the aperture.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 67 words
An assembly of a needle shield (6) for a needle channel (10) and a self-sealing diaphragm (5), characterised in that the needle shield is generally cup-shaped and is provided with an aperture (8), said self-sealing diaphragm being retained in the aperture, and in that the diameter of the aperture (8) approximates to, or is smaller than, the internal diameter of the inlet of the needle channel (10).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 67 words
An assembly of a needle shield (6) for a needle channel (10) and a self-sealing diaphragm (5), characterised in that the needle shield is generally cup-shaped and is provided with an aperture (8), said self-sealing diaphragm being retained in the aperture, and in that the diameter of the aperture (8) approximates to, or is smaller than, the internal diameter of the inlet of the needle channel (10).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 52 words
An assembly according to either of the foregoing claims characterised in that the diaphragm (5) is externally disposed about the needle channel (10) and in that the needle shield (6) is provided with a convergent tubular portion adapted to be a push-fit over the external diaphragm (5) and the needle channel (10).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 39 words
An assembly according to either of claims 1 or 2 characterised in that the diaphragm (5) is internally retained at the entrance to the needle channel (10), by a portion of the needle shield (6) adjacent the aperture (8).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 23 words
An assembly according to any preceding claim characterised in that the diaphragm (5) is substantially contiguous with the curve of the shield (6).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 20 words
An assembly according to any preceding claim characterised in that the needle shield (6) is formed of a malleable material.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 25 words
An assembly according to any preceding claim characterised in that the needle shield (6) is provided at its outermost rim with an inturned rib (7).
