Abstract

Abstract Disclosed is an improved waterproof electric connector structure which uses a rubber gasket (10) to be sandwiched between the cap (12) and the housing (1). The rubber gasket has an outer limit as least on one of its opposite surfaces to permit the complemental outer limit of the inner surface of the cap or the rear end of the housing to fit in. The use of such rubber gasket permits the automatic assembling of the parts, still assuring the assemblage of perfect waterproofness.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 193 words
A waterproof electric connector comprising: a connector housing (1); a cap (12) to be detachably fixed to said connector housing (1 ); one or more terminal pieces (3) to be connected to the conductor of an insulated wire (6) in said connector housing (1); and a rubber gasket (10) to be pressed between said connector housing (1) and said cap (12) to encircle the insulator sheath (8) of said insulated wire (6) characterised in that: said rubber gasket (10) has a recess (17 or 19) made on at least one of its sides (13 and 14) on which said rubber gasket (10) faces said connector housing (1) and said cap (12) to accomodate the outer limit (23) of the rear end of said connector housing (1) and the outer limit (27) of the inner surface of said cap (12) whereby the stress which will be caused in said rubber gasket (10) by press-fitting said cap (12) on said connector housing (1), will cause positive sealing effect at the sealing interfaces (32 and 33) between said insulated wire (6) and said rubber gasket (10) and between said cap (12) and said rubber gasket (10)
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 193 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 71 words
A waterproof electric connector as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that said rubber gasket (10) has recesses (17 and 19) made on its sides (13 and 14) on which said rubber gasket (10) faces said connector housing (1) and said cap (12) to accommodate the outer limit (23) of the rear end of said connector housing (1) and the outer limit (27) of the inner surface of said cap (12).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 60 words
A waterproof electric connector as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that said rubber gasket (10) has recesses (17) made on its sides (13) on which said rubber gasket (10) faces said connector housing (1) to accommodate the outer limit (23) of the rear end of said connector housing (1) when said cap (12) is press-fitted on rubber gasket (10).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 59 words
A waterproof electric connector as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that said rubber gasket (10) has recesses (19) made on its sides (14) on which said rubber gasket (10) faces said cap (12) to accommodate the outer limit (27) of the inner surface of said cap (12) when said cap (12) is press-fitted on said rubber gasket (10).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 166 words
A waterproof electric connector as claimed in any preceding claim, characterised in that the outer limit (23) of the rear end of said connector housing (1) and/or the outer limit (27) of the inner surface of said cap (12) have a tapered or chamfered end (26 or 29) whereas the recess (17) and/or (19) of said rubber gasket (10) have a corresponding tapered or chamfered shape (18 or 22), whereby the stress which will be caused in said rubber gasket by press-fitting the tapered ends (28) of the outer limit (23) of the rear end of said connector housing (1) and/or the tapered and chamfered ends (29) of the outer limit (27) of the inner surface of said cap (12) into the corresponding tapered and/or chamfered recesses (17) and/or (19) of said rubber gasket (10) will cause positive sealing effect at the interface (32 and 33) between said insulated wire (8) and said rubber gasket (10) and between said cap (12) and said rubber gasket (10).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 38 words
A waterproof electric connector as claimed in any preceding claim, characterised in that the recess (17) and/or (19) of said rubber gasket (10) encircles the sealing interface (32) between said insulated wire (8) and said rubber gasket (10).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 25 words
A waterproof electric connector as claimed in any preceding claim, characterised in that said connector housing (1) has a single terminal piece (3) fitted therein.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 60 words
A waterproof electric connector as claimed in any preceding claim, characterised in that said connector housing (1) has a plurality of terminal piece (3) fitted therein at regular intervals, each encircling an insulated wire (8), the recess (17) and/or (19) of said rubber gasket (10) encircling the sealing interface (32) between said insulated wire (8) and said rubber gasket (10).
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 58 words
A waterproof electric connector as claimed in claim 7 or claim 8, characterised in that said terminal piece or pieces are female receptacles in which a male plug terminal piece or pieces are to be inserted, each female receptacle having pinching portions (4 and 5) to grip the stripped conductor end and insulating sheath of an insulated wire.
