Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim
95 words
A flexible dual lumen catheter (20) having a first portion (56) and a second portion (58) and comprising an intake lumen (64) having a closed distal end and a side opening (52) immediately adjacent the distal end to recieve fluid for extraction, and a return lumen (72), the second portion (58) extending longitudally beyond the distal end of the intake lumen, said second portion terminating at an opening (74) to return said fluid, characterised in that said second portion is of a material having a greater flexibility than that of the remainder of the catheter.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
32 words
A flexible dual lumen catheter as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that the intake lumen (64) terminates adjacent said portion (58) with a cross-section reducing in the direction of said portion.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
32 words
A flexible dual lumen catheter as claimed in claim 1 or 2, characterised in that said portion (58) is of a material different from the material of the remainder of the catheter.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
46 words
A flexible dual lumen catheter as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3, characterised by having a first portion (56) of a uniform diameter and a second portion (58) of a uniform diameter and a transition portion (68) blending smoothly between the first and second diameters.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
57 words
A flexible dual lumen catheter as claimed in claim 4, characterised in that the intake lumen (64) has a D-shaped cross-section (64) and terminates at a closed end at the transition portion (68), and the return lumen (72) has a D-shaped cross-section (66) in the first portion and a round cross-section in the second more flexible portion.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
24 words
A flexible dual lumen catheter as claimed in claim 5 characterised in that the D-shaped cross-sections (64, 66) of the two lumens are similar.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
31 words
A flexible dual lumen catheter as claimed in claim 4, 5 or 6 characterised in that the first and second portions (56, 58) are formed of polyurethane having different physical properties.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
34 words
A flexible dual lumen catheter as claimed in claim 7, characterised in that the first and second portions (56, 58) are of materials of different colours, each colour indicating the properties of the material.
