Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 57 words
A composition of matter for the prevention of undesirable side effects in the skin or mucosa, generated by a drug administered transdermally, comprising: a drug susceptible to being metabolized in the skin or mucosa; and a metabolic modulator capable of modifying the metabolism of said drug; wherein said drug and metabolic modulator are dispersed within a carrier.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 57 words
A composition of matter for the prevention of undesirable side effects in the skin or mucosa, generated by a drug administered transdermally, comprising: a drug susceptible to being metabolized in the skin or mucosa; and a metabolic modulator capable of modifying the metabolism of said drug; wherein said drug and metabolic modulator are dispersed within a carrier.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 49 words
A composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein said modulator is present in an amount sufficient to provide administration at a metabolic modifying rate for a predetermined time, and said drug is present in an amount sufficient to provide administration at a therapeutically effective rate for a predetermined time.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 21 words
A composition as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein said modulator comprises about 0.1-20 weight percent of said composition.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 17 words
A composition as claimed in any preceding claim wherein said drug is metabolized by monoamine oxidase activity.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 16 words
A composition as claimed in claim 6 wherein said metabolic modulator is a monoamine oxoidase inhibitor.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 28 words
A composition as claimed in any preceding wherein said metabolic modulator has the structure of (C₆H₅)-ROH where R is selected from (CH₂) n CH₂ where n=0-4, and CH=CHCH₂.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 18 words
A composition as claimed in any preceding claim wherein said drug is propranolol and said modulator is 2-phenyl-1-ethanol.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 23 words
A composition as claimed in any of claims 1 to 6 wherein said drug is tetracaine and said modulator is 2-phenyl-1-ethanol and/or 3-phenyl-1-propanol.
