Abstract
Abstract A holder for attaching an ultrasonic transducer to the body of a patient, particularly to obtain the fetal heart rate in a pregnant patient, that does not require the use of belts, is disclosed. The holder comprises a flexible disc (10) having a central support member (12) with a central opening (14) for receiving an ultrasonic transducer. Grasping means in the form of two screws (22, 24) are provided in the side wall (16) of the support member for engaging a transducer to lock it in position. The holder is adhesively attached to the patient and permits the ultrasound transducer to be held in a desired orientation.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 22
Claim 1
Independent Claim
68 words
A holder for an ultrasound transducer comprising: (a) a relatively flexible concave disc (10) having a central opening therein, (b) a relatively rigid support member (12) fixed to the flexible disc in the central opening, the support member having an opening (14) therethrough for supporting an ultrasound transducer; and (c) at least one grasping means (22, 24) (122) for movably fixedly grasping an ultrasound transducer in the opening.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
58 words
A holder according to claim 1, in which the grasping means (22, 24) (122) is movable between a first position in which a transducer in the opening (14) in the support member (12) is locked in place and a second position in which a transducer in the opening (14) of the support member (12) is free to move.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
26 words
A holder according to claim 1 or 2 in which the lower surface (20) of the holder has a first relatively rigid member (46) depending therefrom.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
42 words
A holder according to claim 3 in which the lower surface (20) of the holder has a second relatively rigid member (48) depending therefrom, the space between the first (46) and the second members define a channel (50) containing absorbent material (52).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
35 words
A holder according to any preceding claim in which the support member (12) has cable grasping means (32) for grasping the cable of an ultrasound transducer when in the opening (14) in the support member.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
21 words
A holder according to any preceding claim in which the diameter of the disc (10) is approximately 13 cm (5 inches).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
34 words
A holder according to any preceding claim in which the opening (14) in the support member (12) is slightly larger than the outer diameter of an ultrasound transducer to be held by the holder.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
19 words
A holder according to any preceding claim in which the opening (14) is about 6.5 cm (2 1/2 inches).
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
29 words
A holder according to any preceding claim in which the diameter of the disc (10) is about twice the diameter of the opening (14) in the support member (12).
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
30 words
A holder according to any preceeding claim in which the support member comprises a ball (114) and socket (112) means, the ball including means for movably holding an ultrasound transducer.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
19 words
A holder according to claim 10 including means (122) for removably fixing the ball (114) in the socket (112).
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
67 words
A holder for an ultrasound transducer comprising a concave disc (10), the disc having a central opening (14) therein for receiving an ultrasound transducer, the disc being adaptable to being adhesively applied to the body of a patient, and means (22, 24) (122) associated with the disc for removably and fixedly holding and maintaining an ultrasound transducer in a fixed relationship to the body of the patient.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim
67 words
A holder for an ultrasound transducer comprising a concave disc (10), the disc having a central opening (14) therein for receiving an ultrasound transducer, the disc being adaptable to being adhesively applied to the body of a patient, and means (22, 24) (122) associated with the disc for removably and fixedly holding and maintaining an ultrasound transducer in a fixed relationship to the body of the patient.
Claim 15
