Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim
57 words
In a rotary fiberizer including a rotating disc, a stream of liquid material impinging on said rotating disc, and a column of fibers emanating from said rotating disc, said column defining a void area within said column, the improvement comprising: means, in said void area, for introducing a gas, or a liquid into said column of fibers.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
29 words
Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said introducing means includes 2 hollow shafts concentric with each other and having their axes perpendicular to the plane of said rotating disc.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
15 words
Apparatus according to claim 2 wherein said concentric hollow shafts extend through said rotating discs.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
18 words
Apparatus according to claim 3 wherein said concentric hollow shafts include an air shaft and a binder shaft.
Claim 6
Independent Claim
84 words
A method for manufacturing fibers comprising the steps of: impinging a liquid stream onto a rotating disc extruding said liquid stream through holes in the periphery of said rotaing disc to produce fibers; directing said fibers from the periphery of said rotating disc into a generally circular fiber column defining a void area therein; providing a positive pressure inside said circular fiber column to thereby alter the configuration to a desired fiber column configuration; and collecting the fibers from said desired fiber column configuration.
Claim 7
Independent Claim
84 words
A method for manufacturing fibers comprising the steps of: impinging a liquid stream onto a rotating disc extruding said liquid stream through holes in the periphery of said rotaing disc to produce fibers; directing said fibers from the periphery of said rotating disc into a generally circular fiber column defining a void area therein; providing a positive pressure inside said circular fiber column to thereby alter the configuration to a desired fiber column configuration; and collecting the fibers from said desired fiber column configuration.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
38 words
Method according to claim 5 wherein said step of providing includes forcing a gas from the void area inside the circular fiber column against the fibers in the column to thereby alter the configuration of the fiber column.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
31 words
Method according to claim 6 wherein said gas is directed at an angle of approximately 60 degrees from the plane of the rotating disc toward the apex of said fiber column
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
22 words
Apparatus according to claim 5 wherein said step of providing includes spraying a liquid from said void area onto said fiber column.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
10 words
Method according to claim 8 wherein said liquid includes binder.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
24 words
Method according to claim 6 wherein said gas is introduced so as to oppose the rotation of said fibers in said circular fiber column.
