Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim
89 words
A medical electrical lead comprising an elongated insulative sheath (22) fabricated of a polyether urethane, at least one elongated coiled conductor (32A...32D) located within said sheath (22) and including an alloy core wire (36) provided with a coating (34) of a biocompatible inert metal selected from platinum, titanium, niobium, tantalum and alloys thereof, and an electrode (24, 26) and an electrical connector (12, 14) coupled to opposite ends of said conductor (32A...32D), characterised in that said core wire (36) is made of an alloy including cobalt, chromium and/or molybdenum.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
28 words
The lead of claim 1, comprising a multifilar coil including a plurality of said conductors (32A...32D), which are further provided with an outer coating (38) of insulative material.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
19 words
The lead of claim 1 or 2, wherein said metal coating (34) is 200 µm or less in thickness.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
17 words
The lead of claim 3, wherein said metal coating (34) is 50 nm or less in thickness.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
22 words
The lead of any of claims 1 to 4, wherein said core wire (36) has a diameter of 0.3 mm or less.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
21 words
The lead of any of claims 1 to 5, wherein the conductor coil has a diameter of 3 mm or less.
Claim 7
Independent Claim
67 words
A method of fabricating the medical electrical lead of any of claims 1 to 6, comprising the steps of coating said core wire (36) with said biocompatible inert metal (34) to obtain said conductor (32A...32D), coiling said conductor (32A...32D), mounting the coiled conductor (32A...32D) within said sheath (22), and coupling the ends of the coiled conductor to said electrical connector (12, 14) and electrode (24, 26), respectively.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
50 words
The method of claim 7, wherein two or more of said core wires (36) are coated, a layer (38) of insulative material is applied, after the coating step, to the exterior surfaces of said plurality of core wires, and the plurality of wires are coiled to provide a multifilar coil.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
13 words
The method of claim 7 or 8, wherein said coating step comprises sputtering.
Claim 10
Independent Claim
17 words
The method of any of claims 7 to 9, wherein said coating step precedes said coiling step.
Claim 11
Independent Claim
17 words
The method of any of claims 7 to 9, wherein said coiling step precedes said coating step.
