Abstract

Abstract A lumbar support (10) for a motor vehicle seat or the like is provided. The support includes a pair of vertically mounted bands (16) supported by an upper support band (24) and a bracket (26), respectively. The vertical bands (16) are bowed towards the front of the seat. An adjustment band (14) is pivotably mounted to a rotatable plate (44) on the bracket (26) for controlling the bowing of the vertical bands. A spring (56) is mounted between the upper support band (24) and the bracket (26) and pulls them towards each other.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 65 words
An adjustable lumbar support for a vehicle seat comprising a top support, a bottom support, a vertically-extending convex flexible band secured to both supports, and means for adjusting the distance between the supports to vary the convexity of the flexible band, characterized by spring means interconnecting the supports and biasing them toward each other to impart a greater degree of convexity to the flexible band.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 65 words
An adjustable lumbar support for a vehicle seat comprising a top support, a bottom support, a vertically-extending convex flexible band secured to both supports, and means for adjusting the distance between the supports to vary the convexity of the flexible band, characterized by spring means interconnecting the supports and biasing them toward each other to impart a greater degree of convexity to the flexible band.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 30 words
The adjustable lumbar support of Claim 1, characterized by the adjusting means including a second flexible band affixed to one of the bands and movably mounted on the other support.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 74 words
The adjustable lumbar support of Claim 2, further characterized by the bottom support including a bracket mounting the first band and the adjusting means includes a plate pivoted to the bracket for rotating about a first axis, the second band being pivoted to the plate about a second axis parallel to the first such that rotation of the plate moves the supports relative to each other, varying the convexity of the first flexible band.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 39 words
The adjustable lumbar support of Claim 3, further characterized by a wire frame mounting both supports for attachment to a seat structure and the spring means comprising an elongated coil spring in tension urging the supports toward each other.
