Abstract

Abstract This invention provides bisacrylate monomers and thermoset polymers which exhibit nonlinear optical response. The polymers have utility as a transparent nonlinear optical component in optical light switch and light modulator devices. The bisacrylate monomers correspond to the following structure: where R is an alkyl substituent, R¹ is a divalent alkylene radical, m is an integer with a value of 0-2, n is an integer with a value of 0-1, and X is an electron-withdrawing substituent, such as -NO₂, CF₃, or -CN.
