Abstract
Abstract A bottle filter composed of separately fabricated funnel, filter membrane and adapter. The bottom wall of the funnel has a grid support on its upper surface on which the filter membrane is secured. An adapter is secured to the lower surface of the bottom wall of the funnel and has an internally threaded neck which allows the bottle filter to be mounted directly on standard media bottles. A nipple is provided in the side wall of the adapter to enable a vacuum to be impressed on the lower surface of the filter so as to draw fluid in the funnel through the filter membrane and adapter into the container on which the bottle filter is mounted.

A bottle filter comprising a funnel having downwardly tapered side walls and a bottom wall, said bottom wall having an opening therethrough at its center, a stem open at the top and bottom and forming part of the funnel and integrally molded with the side and bottom walls and extending downwardly from the lower surface of the bottom wall with its open top encompassing the opening so that flow through the opening enters the stem, a plurality of interrupted concentric ribs formed on the top surface of the bottom wall providing a grid support for a filter membrane placed on it for directing all fluid which passes through the filter to flow through the opening in the bottom wall, a filter membrane disposed on the grid support for filtering fluids placed in the funnel, an adapter having a generally cylindrical wall secured to the bottom surface of the bottom wall, concentric with and spaced radially outwardly from the stem, a divider connected to the cylindrical wall of the adapter and disposed perpendicular to the cylindrical wall axis, a central opening and surrounding collar in the divider coaxial with the cylindrical wall and through which the stem extends, said stem extending downwardly beyond the end of the collar, and a neck forming part of the cylindrical wall and internally threaded to screw onto the neck of a filter bottle.
