Abstract
Abstract A plugable interposer assembly (400) for enclosing printed circuit cards used in electronic devices and accommodating the connection of cables and additional printed circuit card enclosures (420, 430, 440). The enclosure is completely shielded and is particularly adapted to use in circumstances where unskilled persons either plug or unplug the assembly into a backplane assembly.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
94 words
An interposer assembly, having a circuit card therein, for connection of an additional circuit card or cable to a system backplane, characterized in that it comprises: a. a metallic housing having a top, a bottom, sides, a back and a first connector positioned on said back thereof for mating and connection with a system backplane; b. a second connector affixed to a partition positioned within said housing and connected to said circuit card therein; and, c. a plurality of openings in the top and bottom of said enclosure for the flow of cooling air.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
45 words
An interposer according to claim 1 characterized in that said partition is a solid metallic member coacting with sides and said back to constrain air flowing through said enclosure from said top to said bottom and providing electromagnetic shielding for a circuit card positioned within.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
19 words
An interposer according to claim 2 wherein said openings provide air flow over both sides of the card therein.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
32 words
An interposer assembly according to claim 2 characterized in that it has at least one grounding spring affixed to said top and bottom for engagement with the support for said system backplane.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
34 words
An interposer assembly according to any one of claims 1-4 characterized in that said back has a flat region surrounding said connector for engagement with grounding springs on the support for said system backplane.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
21 words
An interposer assembly according to any one claims 1-5 characterized in that said openings have a maximum dimension of one inch.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
49 words
An interposer assembly according to any one of claims 1-6 characterized in that it further including: a. a pair of projections extending forwardly from said assembly; b. a boss positioned to face inwardly on each of said projections; and, c. a handle pivotally mounted between each of said bosses.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
95 words
A shielded circuit card enclosure for connection to a shielded interposer having a connector positioned therein, characterized in that it comprises: a. a metallic housing having a top, bottom, sides and a front; b. a connector positioned on said back to mate with a connector within said interposer; c. latch means positioned on said housing for engagement with said interposer to retain said enclosure within said interposer; and, d. a plurality of openings in said top and bottom for coaction with corresponding openings in said interposer for the flow of cooling air through said enclosure.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
95 words
A shielded circuit card enclosure for connection to a shielded interposer having a connector positioned therein, characterized in that it comprises: a. a metallic housing having a top, bottom, sides and a front; b. a connector positioned on said back to mate with a connector within said interposer; c. latch means positioned on said housing for engagement with said interposer to retain said enclosure within said interposer; and, d. a plurality of openings in said top and bottom for coaction with corresponding openings in said interposer for the flow of cooling air through said enclosure.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
29 words
A shielded circuit card enclosure according to claim 8, characterized in that it further includes: a. a cable connector positioned on said front for mating with an interconnecting cable.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
36 words
A shielded circuit card enclosure according to claim 9, characterized in that :: said latch means is prevented from movement from a latched to an unlatched position when a cable is plugged into said cable connector.
