Abstract

Abstract A system for detecting wheel slip of a four-wheel drive motor vehicle has a speed difference detector for detecting the difference between the front-wheel speed and the rear-wheel speed which produces a speed difference signal when the difference is larger than a predetermind value. A wheel acceleration, and a vehicle boby acceleration detector (42) is provided for detecting vehicle body acceleration. When the difference of the wheel acceleration from the vehicle body acceleration is larger than a predetermined value, and when the speed difference signal is not generated, a four-wheel slip signal is generated.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 3
Claim 1
Independent Claim 155 words
A slip detecting system for a four-wheel drive motor vehicle comprising: front wheel speed detector means (40) for detecting front-wheel speed and for producing a front-wheel speed signal; rear wheel speed detector means (41) for detecting rear-wheel speed and for producing a rear-wheel speed signal; and characterised by the provision of speed difference detector means for detecting the difference between the front-wheel speed and the rear-wheel speed and for producing a speed difference signal when the difference is larger than a predetermined value; wheel acceleration calculator means responsive to the front-wheel speed signal and the rear-wheel speed signal for calculating wheel acceleration; vehicle acceleration detector means (42) for detecting vehicle body acceleration; slip detector means (60) for detecting a difference in acceleration of the wheels from the vehicle body acceleration in the abscence of the speed difference signal and for producing a four-wheel slip signal when the acceleration difference is larger than a predetermined value.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 56 words
A system according to claim 1 characterised in that each of the front and rear speed detector means (40, 41) comprises left (40L, 41L) and right (40R, 41R) wheel speed sensors and calculator means (54) for calculating an average speed of the left and right wheel speeds to generate an average front and average rear-wheel speed.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 40 words
A system according to claim 1 or claim 2 characterised in that the wheel acceleration calculator comprises calculator means (58) for calculating the average wheel speed of front and rear wheels and means (59) for differentiating the average wheel speed.
