Abstract

An office chair in which the backrest (12) and the seat (14) are hinged together and in which this assembly is pivotally supported by the rear end of the side arms (22) which form a pivot point (28) which at or in is arranged near the center of gravity of the chair when it is occupied. The pivot point (28) is held in space by a support system arranged underneath. The lower end of the armrest (22) is connected to the rear transverse support arm (30) of a support frame, which in turn is arranged at the upper end of a vertical support column (17). The front end of the seat element (14) is slidably arranged on a front cross arm (32) of the support frame by a hexagonally shaped sliding or locking element (66) in such a way that the backrest (12) and the seat (14) optionally in their position can be locked or released in order to tilt (backrest) and slide (seat surface). The hinge (13) which connects the backrest (12) and the seat surface (14) is arranged below and behind the point of the hinge-like support described above, so that when the backrest (12) is tilted backwards from an upright position , the rear portion of the seat member (14) is caused to lower slightly as it slides forward. All controls for the chair are located at one end of the support arm described above.
