Abstract
Abstract A control system for a motor vehicle has a continuously variable transmission, a transmission ratio control system for controlling the transmission ratio, and a cruise control system for controlling speed of the vehicle to a desired cruising speed. The transmission ratio is controlled to a desired transmission ratio in accordance with load on the engine. The desired transmission ratio is further determined in accordance with the desired cruising speed.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 3
Claim 1
Independent Claim
56 words
A control system for a motor vehicle having an engine with a throttle valve, and a continuously variable transmission, characterised in that the control system comprises a vehicle speed sensor, means for setting a desired cruising speed, and means for co-operatively controlling the throttle valve and the transmission ratio in accordance with the desired cruising speed.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
114 words
A control system according to claim 1 wherein the continuously variable transmission comprises a drive pulley and a driven pulley each having a respective hydraulically shiftable disc and a hydraulic servo-device for operating the disc, a belt engaged with both pulleys, and a hydraulic circuit having a pump for supplying oil to both the hydraulic cylinders, the control system has including desired transmission ratio providing means responsive to engine load and the desired cruising speed so as to produce a signal representing a required transmission ratio, and a transmission ratio control valve for controlling the oil supplied to the cylinder of the drive pulley to change the transmission ratio to the required transmission ratio.
