Abstract

Abstract An electromagnetically-controlled fuel injection valve (1) for diesel engines includes a body (2) having an upper electromagnetic metering valve (11) which controls communication between a control chamber (14) supplied with the pressurised fuel and a discharge port (A). The metering solenoid valve, which itself constitutes a unit independent of the rest of the injection valve, is supported by a head element (10) connected to the body (2) of the injection valve (1) by axial clamping means (l8) and has an appendage (9) which carries the control chamber (14) and the discharge port (A) and is inserted in an axial seat (8) in the body with the interposition of double sealing means (16,17).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 327 words
An electromeccanically-controlled fuel injection valve for diesel engines, including a body (2, 19) having an axially extending cavity (5) communicating at one end with an injection nozzle (3), a needle (4) slidably mounted into the cavity (5) and operatively associated with the nozzle (3) for controlling communication between the nozzle (3) and an injection chamber (6), which communicates with a passage (7) for the supply of fuel under pressure, a control chamber (14) supplied with the fuel under pressure through an inlet port (Z) to maintain the needle (4) in a closed position, an upper electromagnet metering valve (11) controlling the communication between the control chamber (14) and a discharge port (A), the opening of which causes a pressure drop in the control chamber (14) and the consequent dispaclement of the needle (4) to an open position, the metering valve (11) including a head element (10) secured to the body (2, 19) by axial clamping means (18) and provided with an axial passage for an electromagnetically operable obturator (12) for the discharge port (A), an appendage (9) integral with the head element (10) carrying said discharge port (A) and at least part of said control chamber (14), the appendage (9) being inserted in an axial seat (8) of the body (2, 19) supplied with fuel under pressure and communicating with the opposite end of the cavity (5), characterised in that, a double sealing means (16, 17) being provided between the seat (8) and the appendage (9) for sealing a space therebetween, said appendage (9) is also provided with said inlet port (Z), said inlet port (Z) communicating with said space which is in communication with an inlet duct of said body (2, 19), whereby the metering valve including the appendage (9) of the head element (10), carrying the inlet port (Z), the control chamber (14) and the discharge port (A), are structurally and functionally independent of the rest of the injection valve and can be separately checked.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 64 words
An injection valve according to Claim 1, characterised in that the double sealing means (16, 17) include an annular resilient member (16) coaxial with the appendage (9) for sealing one end of the seat (8), and complementary frontal conical surfaces (17) between the body (2, 19) and the appendage (9) of the head element (10) for sealing the other end of the seat (8).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 24 words
An injection valve according to Claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the appendage (9) is provided with an annular groove providing said space.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 108 words
An injection valve according to anyone of the previous Claims, characterised in that said body (2, 19) include a first body element (2) housing a portion (4a) of the needle (4) having a relatively small diameter, and a second body element (19) housing the head element (10) and a portion (4c) of the needle (4) having a relatively large diameter, the body elements (2 and 19) being mutually secured by a ring nut (20), centering means (21, 22) including a bush (21) surrounding the passage (5) and an eccentric reference pin (22) being provided for mutually centering the two body elements (2 and 19) when so mutually secured.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 62 words
An injection valve according to Claim 4, characterised in that a variable thickness block (15) is housed it the second body element (19) at the other end of the cavity (5) for separating the end of the appendage (9) from the end of the large diameter portion (4c) of the needle (4), thus adjustably limiting the opening travel of the needle (4).
