Abstract

Abstract If when a load (R L ) is powered by a battery (6) first detection means (100) detect that the expired discharge time measured by measurement means (40, 70) is equal to the first reference value stored in a memory (22), first time measurement means (40, 80) measure the time during which the load (R L ) is powered by the battery (6). When the load (R L ) is switched off and is not connected to the mains voltage via a power-supply circuit (1), the battery (6) is discharged by a discharger (9). Second time-measurement means (50, 80) measure the time during which this discharger (9) is operative until second detection means (13) detect a battery voltage for which the battery (6) may be regarded as fully discharged. After comparison of the sum of the time intervals measured by the first and the second time-measurement means with a second reference value stored in a memory (21), the correction means (10) correct the reference value stored in a memory (22) in such a way that during a next discharge the sum of the time intervals measured by the first and the second time-measurement means is better in agreement with the second reference value.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 170 words
A device comprising - a load which can be powered by a battery, and - a power-supply circuit for charging the battery and/or powering the load, characterized in that the device further comprises - first detection means for detecting expiry of a discharge time of the battery, - second detection means for detecting a battery voltage substantially equal to a threshold value, - a discharger for discharging the battery, with the load switched off, after detection of expiry of the discharge time until detection of the threshold value, - first time-measurement means for measuring the time during which the load is powered by the battery after detection of expiry of said discharge time until the threshold value is reached, - second time-measurement means for measuring the time during which the discharger has been operative, and - correction means for correcting the expired discharge time depending on the magnitude of the weighted sum of the time intervals measured by the first and the second time-measurement means relative to a reference value.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 58 words
A device as claimed in Claim 1, characterized in that the device further comprises: - third detection means for detecting a weighted sum of the time intervals measured by the first and second time-measurement means, which sum is substantially equal to the reference value, and for switching off the discharger or the load after detection of said sum.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 28 words
A device is claimed in Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the device comprises means for switching off the power-supply circuit when the discharger circuit is operative.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 36 words
A device as claimed in Claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that the discharger comprises a series arrangement of a resistor and a transistor switch, which series arrangement is connected in parallel with the load.
Claim 6
Independent Claim 19 words
A device as claimed in Claim3, characterized in that a light-emitting diode is arranged in series with the resistor.
Claim 7
