Abstract

Abstract A digital stored voice pager receiver is disclosed comprised of a receiver (12), a decoder (14), a converter (38), switch (56), a memory (50), and an annunciator (36). The receiver (12) receives analog information transmitted from a paging transmitter. In response, the decoder (14) decodes the analog information and applies the information to the converter (38). The converter (38) converts the analog information to digital information for storage into one of a plurality of message slots in the memory (50). The annunciator (36) generates an alert upon receipt of the analog information. In response to a single control input (56), the digitized stored voice message is recalled from a message slot, reconverted from digital information to analog information, and used to produce audible voice information being a replica of the original analog voice message.

Claim 2
Dependent Claim 173 words
A portable digitized voice paging device comprising: means for receiving coded information transmitted from an external source, the information including analog information having at least one analog voice message; means for decoding the coded information and to receive the analog information, said decoding means being responsive to said receiving means for determining whether the analog information is intended for the paging device; means for converting the analog information, said converting means being responsive to said decoding means to convert the analog voice message to a digital voice message; memory means responsive to said decoding means, for storing the digital voice message; alerting means responsive to said decoding means for generating an alert to notify the user of the paging device of the receipt of information; input means for generating an electrical signal to selectively switch the operation of said paging device between a state for receiving and recording the digital voice message and a mode for playing back the stored digital voice message; and a battery means for providing an electric power supply.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 28 words
The paging device of claim 1 wherein the electrical signal initiates playback of a youngest message in the memory when the decoding means is in the playback state.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 20 words
The paging device of claim 2 wherein successive activation of the electrical signal initiates playback of the next oldest message.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 29 words
The paging device of claim 1 wherein the activation of the electrical signal initiates real time audio output when the decoding means is in the receive and record state.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 177 words
A portable digitized voice paging device comprising: a battery for providing an electric power source; means for receiving coded information transmitted from an external source, the information including analog information having at least one analog voice message; means for decoding the coded information and to receive the analog information, said decoding means being responsive to said receiving means for determining whether the analog information is intended for the paging device, said decoding means further generating power selection signals; means for converting the analog information, said converting means being responsive to said decoding means to convert the analog voice message to a digital voice message; memory means responsive to said decoding means, for storing the digital voice message; a manually operable input means for generating input signals indicative of operational functions, said operational functions including a plurality of operating modes for said decoding means; and a power supply control means connected to said battery and responsive to said power selection signals for selectively coupling said battery to said receiving means, thereby reducing power consumption by said receiving means.
