Claim 1
Independent Claim
110 words
A method for saving messages transmitting to a digital stored voice paging receiver having a plurality of message slots, wherein each slot being capable of saving a voice message received and decoded by the paging receiver includes a value representative of the status of the message slot, said method comprising the steps of: (a) digitizing at the paging receiver the received message; (b) determining the status value for each message slot; (c) comparing the status value for each message slot to a predetermined value; and (d) storing the digitized message in the message slot depending upon the difference between the status value for the message slot and the predetermined value.
Claim 2
Independent Claim
110 words
A method for saving messages transmitting to a digital stored voice paging receiver having a plurality of message slots, wherein each slot being capable of saving a voice message received and decoded by the paging receiver includes a value representative of the status of the message slot, said method comprising the steps of: (a) digitizing at the paging receiver the received message; (b) determining the status value for each message slot; (c) comparing the status value for each message slot to a predetermined value; and (d) storing the digitized message in the message slot depending upon the difference between the status value for the message slot and the predetermined value.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
32 words
The method of claim 1 further including the steps of: (e) chronologically ordering the status values; and (f) storing the digitized message in a message slot having chronologically the oldest status value.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
80 words
The method of claim 1 further including the steps of: (g) ordering in a predetermined priority the status values, wherein the status values include an unread status, a read status, and an empty status, with the unread status being the highest priority and empty status being the lowest priority; (h) setting the received message to a predetermined priority status; and (i) storing the digitized message in a message slot having a priority less than the priority of the received message.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
46 words
The method of claim 3 further including the steps of: (j) chronologically ordering the status values for a priority level; and (k) storing the digitized message in a message slot having the oldest status value and a priority less than the priority of the digitized message.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
64 words
The method of claim 3 wherein the step (i) of storing further includes: (l) if an empty slot is available, storing the digitized message in an empty slot; (m) if an empty slot is not available, storing the digitized message in a read message slot; and (n) if a read message slot is not available, storing the digitized message in an unread message slot.
Claim 7
Independent Claim
138 words
A method for storing messages in a digital stored voice paging receiver, the receiving having a plurality of message slots, each slot capable of containing a digitized voice message and depending upon a status of the digitized voice message, said method comprising the steps of: (a) receiving and decoding analog information transmitted from a base station transmitter to recover at least one voice message; (b) digitizing the at least one voice message; (c) setting the status of the at least one digitized message to a predetermined priority, wherein the message slots have been ordered in a predetermined priority; (d) comparing the status of the message slots to the priority of the at least one digitized message; and (e) storing the digitized message in the message slot having a priority not greater than the priority of the digitized message.
Claim 8
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
64 words
The method of claim 6 wherein the predetermined priority is a function of time of receipt, wherein step (c) of setting further includes: (f) setting the status of digitized message to a predetermined priority wherein the message slots have been ordered according to the order in which they are received; and (g) storing the digitized message in the message slot having the oldest message.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
38 words
The method of claim 6 where step (c) of setting further includes: (h) setting the status of the digitized message to a predetermined priority wherein the status includes an unread status, a read status, and an empty status.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
21 words
The method of claim 8 further including the step of: (i) storing the digitized message in any available empty message slot.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
45 words
The method of claim 9 further including the step of: (j) if no empty message slots are available, storing the digitized message in a read message slot; and (k) if no read message slots are available, storing the digitized message in an unread message slot.
