Abstract

Abstract According to this invention, in a display system having a CRT controller for arbitrarily and selectively display-driving a plasma display (23) and a CRT display (25), display fonts inherent to the displays are prepared, and a display font corresponding to the display is selectively used and displayed in accordance with a display to be display-driven. The fonts include a plurality of types of graphics and text fonts, and are selectively used. As the text font, a single font and a double font are selectively used. When a display mode of the plasma display having a ratio of the number of dots in the vertical direction to that in the horizontal direction different from that of the CRT display is set, a specific raster of the display screen is scanned twice to stretch an image.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 140 words
1, A display controller in a display system which comprises a plasma display apparatus (23), allows connection of a CRT display apparatus (25) as an option, and comprises a CRT controller (27) for alternately driving said plasma display apparatus and said CRT display apparatus, comprising: means (19) for selecting a display apparatus to be driven; indicator means (9) for indicating the selected display apparatus; font storage means (7) for storing a font inherent to said plasma display apparatus and a font inherent to said CRT display apparatus; and display control means (1, 5) for selectively reading out the font inherent to said plasma display apparatus or said CRT display apparatus from said font storage means in correspondence with the display apparatus indicated by said indicator means, and causing the selected display apparatus to display an image using the readout font.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 140 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 44 words
A controller according to claim 1, characterized in that said font storage means has a plurality of types of fonts inherent to said plasma display apparatus, and said display control means selectively reads out and displays one of the plurality of types of fonts.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 44 words
A controller according to claim 1, characterized in that said font storage means has a plurality of types of fonts inherent to said CRT display apparatus, and said display control means selectively reads out and displays one of the plurality of types of fonts.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 16 words
A controller according to claim 1, characterized in that said indicator means comprises a battery-backup memory.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 16 words
A controller according to claim 1, characterized in that said indicator means comprises a setting switch.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 101 words
A controller according to claim 1, having at least a text mode and a graphics mode, and characterized by further comprising: mode selection means (19) for selecting one of a text mode and a graphics mode; display mode indicator means (13) for indicating the display mode selected by said mode selection means; means (1, 5, 7) for, when said display mode indicator means indicates the text mode, generating a text font inherent to the text mode; and means (1, 5, 7) for, when said display mode indicator means indicates the graphics mode, generating a graphics font inherent to the graphics mode.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 106 words
A controller according to claim 6, characterized in that a CRT display apparatus can be externally connected to said plasma display apparatus, and said plasma display apparatus has first flag means (9) indicating a display mode by said CRT display apparatus or a display mode by said plasma display apparatus, second flag means (11) indicating whether a display character font in the text mode is a first font of a reference line width or a second font of a width larger than the reference line width, and third flag means (13) indicating whether the display apparatus performs display in the text mode or the graphics mode.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 80 words
A controller according to claim 6, characterized in that said means for generating the text font and said means for generating the graphics font have means for storing a plurality of types of font data, and said font storage means is divided into blocks in accordance with the plurality of types of font data and stores first font data of a reference line width and second font data of a width larger than the reference line width in each block.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 46 words
A controller according to claim 6, characterized in that the text font has a first font of a reference line width and a second font of a width larger than the reference line width, and a text character is displayed by selectively using either one font.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 34 words
A controller according to claim 6, characterized in that a CRT display apparatus can be externally connected, and the first and second fonts can be used only when said plasma display apparatus is display-driven.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 107 words
A controller according to claim 1, characterized by further comprising: stretch designation means (19) for instructing stretching of a display screen of said plasma display apparatus; means (1, 5, 7) for discriminating in response to a stretch instruction from said stretch designation means whether or not a current display mode is a stretch-enable display mode; and image stretch means (1, 5, 15) for, when said means for discriminating the stretch-enable display mode determines that the current display mode is the stretch-enable display mode, scanning a specific raster of the display screen of said plasma display apparatus a plurality of times so as to stretch a display image.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 84 words
A controller according to claim 11, characterized in that when an application program for a CRT display apparatus is executed using said plasma display apparatus, said means for discriminating the stretch-enable display mode determines that a display mode of a plasma display having a ratio of the number of dots in the vertical direction to that in the horizontal direction different from that of said CRT display apparatus is set, and said image stretch means stretches the display screen of said plasma display apparatus.
