Abstract
Abstract An improved method for killing over-sprayed paints which requires a) alkalinity adjustment of paint spray booth water to at least about 50 ppm, preferably about 200-600 ppm, on a calcium carbonate basis; b) addition of a melamine-formaldehyde polymer to paint spray booth water; c) addition of a polymeric coagulant to paint spray booth water; and d) separation of the resulting floc.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim
93 words
A method of killing and flocculating over-sprayed, water insoluble paint which contacts and is captured by water in paint spray booth operation, which comprises: a) adjusting said water's alkalinity to between about 50 and 1100 ppm on a calcium carbonate basis; b) maintaining in said water an effective amount of a melamine aldehyde-type polymer; c) adding an effective amount of a polymeric coagulant to said water after contacting said oversprayed paint with said alkalinity and said melamine aldehyde-type polymer; and d) removing sludge resulting from steps a), b) and c) from said water.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim

Claim 7
Dependent Claim
11 words
The method of Claim 2, wherein said polymeric coagulant is nonionic.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
14 words
The method of Claim 1, wherein said polymeric coagulant controls foaming in said operation.
