Abstract

Abstract The conveyor chain assembly is made of multiple rows of pivotally connected link modules (14). Each module (14) has spaced link ends (20,22,26) which project between the link ends (20,22,26) of the module (14) in the adjacent row. The joint between modules (14) in a row is straddled or bridged by a module (14) in the adjacent row to give a bricked lay-up. Each of the modules (14) on the left side of the conveyor has a solid link end (20,22) so the pivot rod (24) abuts the inside of the link end (20,22). The other end of the pivot rod (24) lies just inside of a spring plug (28) mounted in the arm or link end (26) on the right side module (14). The modules (14) cannot be end-for-ended and assembled. They must be assembled correctly. Certain link ends are wider than the others to require proper assembly to the modules (14) in the adjacent row and to distribute drive loads over a greater area. Both sides of the conveyor are essentially flush or smooth.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 157 words
A conveyor chain assembly comprising a multiplicity of rows of chain modules, each chain module having a plurality of link ends projecting forwardly and rearwardly from the module with respect to the direction of movement of the conveyor chain and the link ends of each module intermeshing with link ends of at least two chain modules in the adjacent row, a pivot pin passing through the meshing link ends between the rows, a solid link end projecting from each module at one side of said conveyor and engaged by said pivot pin, a plugged link end projecting from each module at the other side of said conveyor to lie between adjacent modules, said plugged link end having a hole therethrough in alignment with said pivot pin, a spring action plug mounted in each said hole in said plugged link end to prevent axial movement of said pivot pin and retain said pivot pin in its operative position.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 157 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 55 words
A conveyor chain assembly according to Claim 1 in which the link ends projecting from each module are of unequal width and are received in spaces between link ends on the module in the adjacent row which spaces are sized to ensure that the modules are correctly assembled relative to the width of said conveyor.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 29 words
A conveyor chain assembly according to Claim 2 in which the outside of said spring action plugs lies essentially in the same plane as the side of the conveyor.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 45 words
A conveyor chain assembly according to Claim 1 in which said support arm has a flat surface facing on said other side, said plug having a head, said surface being countersunk to receive said head of said plug with said head flush with said surface.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 155 words
A conveyor chain assembly comprising a multiplicity of rows of chain modules, each chain module having a plurality of link ends projecting forwardly and rearwardly from the module with respect to the direction of movement of the conveyor chain and the link ends of each module intermeshing with link ends of the chain modules in the adjacent row, a pivot pin passing through the meshing link ends between the rows, a solid link end projecting from each module at one side of said conveyor and engaged by said pivot pin, a plugged link end projecting from each module at the other side of said conveyor to lie between adjacent modules, said plugged link end having a hole therethrough in alignment with said pivot pin, a spring action plug mounted in each said hole in said plugged link end to prevent axial movement of said pivot pin and retain said pivot pin in its operative position.
