Abstract
Abstract A space diversity system is disclosed which is capable of operating accurately over a wide range of received input electric field strengths. With a middle or high received electric field strength, a search operation for the antenna with the highest strength is commenced in response to noise detected in the output of the antenna presently selected. With a low received electric field strength, the search operation is carried out in response to noise such as white noise at all times.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
116 words
A space diversity receiving system in which, of a plurality of antennas (1,2), one higher in received electric field strength is selected, and the output thereof is applied to an FM receiver, characterized by level detecting means (7a) for detecting a received electric field strength of a selected antenna from among the plurality of antennas; AC component separating means (11) for separating an AC component from an output of the level detection means; trigger signal generating means (13,14) for producing a trigger signal when a level of the AC component exceeds a reference value; and antenna selecting means (53,54) for selecting an antenna presently higher in received electric field strength in response to the trigger signal.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
83 words
A system according to claim 1, including an AGC amplifier (12); a capacitor (11) coupling a signal received from a presently selected antenna to a signal input of the AGC amplifier; means (13) for rectifying an output of the AGC amplifier; and a monostable multivibrator (14) having a trigger input coupled to an output of said rectifying means; and differentiating means (15) coupled to an output of the monostable multivibrator, the trigger signal being produced at an output of the differentiating means (15).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
58 words
A system according to claim 2, further comprising: a first low-pass filter (13a) coupled between the output of the rectifying means (13) and a first gain control input of the AGC amplifier (12); and a second low-pass filter (14a) coupled between an output of the monostable multivibrator and a second gain control input of the AGC amplifier (12).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
69 words
A system according to claim 1, wherein the antenna selecting means comprises: level comparing means (55); pulse generating means (16) comprising a plurality of cascade-connected monostable multivibrators; antenna switching means (56,3) for successively coupling the antennas to the level comparing means in response to outputs of the pulse generating means; and means (56,3) for selecting one of the antennas in response to an output of the level comparing means.
