Abstract
Abstract An apparatus for checking out purchases comprises a commodity counter 10 with a commodity bearing surface 9 which is flat and elongated leftward and rightward and a commodity reader portion 13 provided on the commodity counter at its control portion leaving a passage 12 for a basket in front of the reader. The commodity reader portion is provided with a reading window 14 formed in its front face and with a control portion 15 and a display portion 16 disposed above the same.
