Abstract

Abstract A particulate or filamentary coating, preferably curable, is provided on indelible labels or heat-recoverable articles, the coating comprising 4 to 90% by weight of an elastomeric binder incorporated in the coating in the form of an aqueous latex. Curable particulate materials described include epoxies and polyesters, and rubber latices include SBS, nitrile, chloroprene, EVA, and acrylates. The use of latices can enhance adhesion, ink receptivity, and humidity tolerance of the coatings.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 14
Claim 1
Independent Claim 38 words
An article having a surface that is provided with a coating of a particulate or filamentary curable material, the coating including an elastomeric binder that has been incorporated in the coating in the form of an aqueous latex.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 38 words
An article having a surface that is provided with a coating of a particulate or filamentary curable material, the coating including an elastomeric binder that has been incorporated in the coating in the form of an aqueous latex.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 34 words
An article as claimed in claim 1, wherein the coating includes at least 4 and not more than 90 percent by weight of the elastomeric binder, based on the total weight of the coating.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 19 words
An article according to claim 2 wherein the coating includes at least 5% by weight of the elastomeric binder.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 25 words
An article as claimed in claim 3, wherein the coating includes at least 10, preferably at least 25, percent by weight of the elastomeric binder.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 40 words
An article as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the binder comprises an EPDM rubber, a styrene-butadiene-styrene rubber, a nitrile rubber, natural rubber, chloroprene, neoprene, an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer elastomer or an acrylate or methacrylate elastomer.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 12 words
An article according to any preceding claim comprising dimensionally heat-recoverable polymeric material.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 34 words
An article as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the particulate or filamentary material compri ses a plurality of reactive components that exist separately from one another in the form of particles and/or filaments.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 15 words
An article as claimed in claim 7, wherein the curable material comprises an epoxy material.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 16 words
An article as claimed in claim 7 or 8, wherein the curable material comprises a polyester.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 20 words
An article as claimed in claim 7 or 8, wherein the curable material comprises a material having free amine groups.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 21 words
An article as claimed in any one of claims 7 to 10, wherein the curable material includes a free-radical curing agent.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 24 words
An article as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the binder is capable of reacting with one or more other components of the coating.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 13 words
An article as claimed in any preceding claim which is a marker assembly.
