Abstract

Abstract A crystalline polyimide polymer contains at least 30 mol % of repeating imide units of the formula:- (in which X is a single bond, an oxygen or sulphur atom or a group -CO- or -SO₂-), optionally together with one or more other repeating imide units; the polymer having an inherent viscosity of from 0.1 to 5 dl/g as measured in a concentration of 0.5g/dl in concentrated sulphuric acid at a temperature of 30 ± 0.01 °C. The polymer is prepared by reacting appropriate dianhydrides and diamines to form a precursor which is subsequently imidized.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 75 words
A crystalline polyimide polymer containing at least 30 mole% of repeating imide units of the formula: (in which X is a single bond, an oxygen or sulphur atom or a group -CO- or -SO₂-), optionally together with one or more other repeating imide units; the polymer having an inherent viscosity of from 0.1 to 5 dl/g as measured in a concentration of 0.5g/dl in concentrated sulphuric acid at a temperature of 30 ± 0.01 °C.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 75 words
A crystalline polyimide polymer containing at least 30 mole% of repeating imide units of the formula: (in which X is a single bond, an oxygen or sulphur atom or a group -CO- or -SO₂-), optionally together with one or more other repeating imide units; the polymer having an inherent viscosity of from 0.1 to 5 dl/g as measured in a concentration of 0.5g/dl in concentrated sulphuric acid at a temperature of 30 ± 0.01 °C.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 23 words
A polymer as claimed in claim 1 in which the repeating unit of formula (I) is a repeating unit of the formulae:- and/or
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 18 words
A polymer as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 containing other repeating imide units of the formulae:
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 30 words
A polymer as claimed in any one of claims 1 - 3 having a melting point of from 300° to 450°C as measured by means of a differential scanning calorimeter.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 234 words
A process for producing a crystalline polyimide polymer which comprises feeding into a reaction vessel one or more diacid anhydrides of the formula:- (in which X has the meaning defined in claim 1), one or more diacid anhydrides of the formula: (in which R¹ is a tetravalent group other than a group: one or more diamines of the formula:- and one or more diamines of the formula: H₂N - R² - NH₂      (XII) (in which R² is a divalent organic group other than a group the anhydrides of formula (VIII) forming from 30 to 100 mol% of the total of anhydrides of formulae (VIII) and (XI), and the amines of formula (XI) forming from 30 to 100 moles, of the mixture of amines of formulae (XI) and (XII); reacting the anhydrides and amines at a temperature of from 0 to 200°C from 0.2 to 20 in the presence of a solvent so that at least 30 mol%, based on the total of the anhydrides, of anhydrides of formula (VIII) are reacted with at least 30 mol%, based on the total of the diamines, of amines of formula (X); and imidizing the resulting polyimide precursor to give a crystalline polyimide polymer containing at least 30 mole% of repeating units of formula (I) (as defined in claim 1) optionally with one of more other repeating imide units, and having inherent viscosity as specified in claim 1.
