Abstract

Abstract A motor driven power steering controller which auxiliary actuates a steering gear of an automobile with motor rotational force in accordance with a transmission position. This controller consists of a transmission position sensor (10) for sensing the transmission position, a torque sensor (3) for sensing the rotational force of a steering wheel (1), a control unit (3) for receiving the signal of each sensor, a D.C. motor (13) for providing auxiliary actuation force and an electromagnetic clutch (16) disposed at a mechanical connection portion between the output of the motor (13) and a rack shaft (6). The control unit (9) controls the rotation of the motor (3) and the engagement and disengagement of the electromagnetic clutch (16) in order to assist or cut off the steering gear. The controller of this invention needs neither complicated input circuit portion nor control program.
